agreed... one point to add and this is probably what you're doing. Don't set
up a STU with the same number of drives that media server has access to (which
are also all shared with other media servers). It needs to be set to only the
nuber of drives you want the STU to use, not the total number.
in example below there is 1 library with 8 drives shared by all servers.
media server physical drives STU drives in STU
media1 8 drives media1-lib1 8 drives
media2 8 drives (same) media2-lib1 8 drives
media3 8 drives (same) media3-lib1 8 drives
In this example media1 would do everything. media2 and media3 would not get
used because there is never any free drives for them.
A better way would be to do this...
media server physical drives STU drives in STU
media1 8 drives media1-lib1 3 drives
media2 8 drives (same) media2-lib1 3 drives
media3 8 drives (same) media3-lib1 2 drives

SSO doesn't play a role in the selection. This is a function of NetBackup's
core operation to select a storage unit.
>From what I understand it works like this.
The storage unit selection is done in a round robin fashion starting with
the first storage unit alphabetically, once all the drives in that storage
unit are used, it goes to the next storage unit in the list alphabetically,
so and so forth.
I haven't seen this documented anywhere, its just from my recollection as a
consultant with OpenVision years ago.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows how SSO picks a media server for a client
not media server ). It seems all my clients are writing to the same media
server when I choose any available Storage Unit.
thanks,
