The best way to do that is to have the tapes for duplication in a separate
volume pool.  After you run your dup scripts, query that pool for any tapes
that have been assigned.  The implication here is that they were mounted and
written to if they are assigned.

vmquery -p $DUP_POOL -bx | tail +4 | awk '{ if ($12!="---") print $1 }'

That will at least tell you that they have been assigned.
