Alright...shame on me for not being more clear on my previous response.

you need LTID if you want your master to be the robot control host...if you
want that follow Anthony's recommendation.  If you want control to stay with
your media server, then your master will only run vmd.

I stand by my original email...you don't need ltid on a voldb HOST only
Master,  you do if it is to control the robotics.

I hope that clears up my response.

Yes you can.

You don't need the ltid processes running on your master, only vmd if its
only the volDB Host.  Ltid (logical tape interface daemon) only runs on
media servers.  When you configure your media servers with ACS you will
enter the robotic control host information (server running acsls), the volDB
host doesn't need to control the robot.

I'm in the process of designing a highly available netbackup environment by
splitting the master off from the media server portion of the configuration.

The master will have no drives and will be the volDB host being protected by
VCS...

I haven't tested it out yet, but in theory this should work...unless there
are some idiosyncrasies with acsls that I don't know about.  :-)

Hi All,

   Is it possible to make a master server the volume database host of a 9310
library under acsls control if the master does not have access to any
drives?  Since acsls actually controls the library and the master can talk
to it via the net I would think that it can, but w/o ltid starting I can't
get the acs* processes to start.  Anyone have any ideas/similar configs?
