I've had the similar thing happen on a couple of NT boxes as well (NB 3.41).
Multiple bpbkar32.exe processes running, always with one that couldn't even
be killed with the NT Reskit kill command, requiring a reboot. I noticed
this after pushing updates from the media master, and never at any other
time...
