I run a Storage Node on a Sun X4500 with Solaris 10 x86, but with
NetWorker 7.4.1 with a 10GB ZFS advanced file type device. I use
that device for staging backups to tape. It works well, except
for one issue. If the advanced file type device is not in use,
recovers from it work well. Unfortunately, I am not able to
recover data while a scheduled backup is in progress and writing
to it. I have a case open with EMC now about this. EMC says they
put out a fix for that problem with NetWorker 7.4.1, but I
suspect that when they put that fix out it was for Windows, not
Solaris. In response to my case, they did some testing, but their
testing was with the device sitting on a Windows and they were
unable to replicate the problem. Yesterday, I asked EMC to test
it in a configuration that's closer to what I am using, which
they agreed to do right away, but I haven't heard back yet since
yesterday on this case.
Stan,
Have you heard anything yet from EMC on this case? We are
considering an identical configuration, and are very interested in
the outcome. I did a search on Powerlink and only found 1
unrelated hit for X4500.
Try doing a search for "Solaris 10" and see what turns up. I
haven't searched PowerLink, but I suspect its a simple matter of
them porting over a fix from Windows to Solaris 10.
Stan,
Still no luck with my Powerlink search, but that is not a huge
surprise. I find the Powerlink site rather frustrating at the best
of times.
Has EMC given you any response on this yet? If no, it would be very
helpful if you could give us an update when you do hear from them.
Mark;
Last week, EMC told me on the phone that this issue was fixed under
Windows and the fix is in NetWorker 7.4. When I told them that my
advanced file type device sits on a Solaris 10 x86 box, that's when I
was told that they need to investigate it further. This is where we
are at now.
