In my "servers" file I have the FQDN of my Networker backup server. Should I 
replace that with the IP of the server. I can ping and traceroute to that FQDN 
without a problem.

On the client's network firewall, I have the following ports open:
TCP/111
TCP/7937
TCP/7938

On the server's network firewall, I have the following open:
TCP/111
TCP/7937-9936
