Based on what was explained to me on the phone by EMC's tech support,
a directed backup is the way to go. I did that and the recover
process completed fine.
What remains a mystery is why when I stopped an Exchange backup while
it was waiting for a tape mount, it clobbered the CFI for the
Exchange client. Its not a big deal. I easily recovered the missing
data by using nsrck -L7, but I would like to know what the story is
with that, so I have another case opened with EMC. Thanks for
