I haven't tried automating it. Have you tried running it with no
connection to the shell? Does it run or just exit out?
scanner -blah... < /dev/null > /tmp/scanner.log 2>&1
If that doesn't work, then 'expect' would allow you to automate it
externally. More annoying than working entirely within scanner, but
pretty dependable.
