I've seen simular problems with a mixed SDLT and LTO library. Legato
simply would not mount a tape when it could not read the barcode of the
tape in a mixed environment. The barcode ends with the type of tape (S =
SDLT, L2 = LTO2, etc.).

In my case I was performing a disaster recovery test at a DR service
provider and had to use their library (StorageTek). We used barcode labels
compatible with HP MSL5000 series libraries, which could not be read by
the StorageTek library. As such Legato (v6.1.x) could not obtain the
barcode information from the library and refused to load a tape. We
replaced our barcode labels with standard ones, after which the problem
was solved (ofcourse the digital label did not match the barcode label,
but that was not a problem)
