Yes, no problem. 
You can adapt your pools or an easier way would be to create
a file device on the backup server, backup the indexes to
the file devices and then use nsrstage for moving index and
bootstrap to another pool on the sn.

Is it possible to have the primary backup server's index get written to
a storage node?

We have a tape library attached to the server. It writes its data to the
storage node, but its index always gets written to the local tape
drives. We'd prefer to use only storage nodes, no local tape library.
