I also use savegrp -En -lfull <groupname>

This gives me an size estimate of the group backup.  You can add a couple of 
-v's to get files that would be backed up.

A more comprehensive probe would be savegrp -D9 -lfull <groupname>

Have you tried, from the command line:

Savegrp -p -l full -G groupname

-p (takes a poll of clients, but doesn't actually do a backup) -l ( level of 
backup ) -G (the name of the group to be backed up / polled)
