I have clients running a browse retention of 6 months and a retention

If I were to change the clients polices to browse 6 months and retention 6

Yes they would, assuming you are using NetWorker 6 or above. The browse
and retention are stored in the media database for each save set. This
was not the case with NetWorker 5 and below.

What I want to do is keep all backups on tape with 5 years retention off
site and retain. To change the retention today to 6 months, so that only
the backups running from today onwards have a 6 months retention so that I
can action recycling on these tapes only.
Yes this will happen.

I will also change the tape pool name, so that I can easily identify the
those under the 6 months retention?
Technically speaking you can't do this. You can't change a pool name,
but you can create a new one and configure your backups to do this
instead. I'm sure that's what you meant.

Any issues here?
None at all. It will just work.
