If you use only the "Tape service" part of SnapImage to backup filers on tape
drives connected to your backup server, you don't need this partition (you need
some spare space in /nsr/tmp, but this is related to NDMP, not SnapImage).

I am using it to backup a small (400 Gb) Netapp filer on a Sun backup server
(Gbit Ethernet, 2 DLT7000 dedicated to NDMP/SnapImage). The setup was fairly
easy (I did it myself and it didn't take 5 days).

My experience is that SnapImage works fine. We have had some initial problems
and still experience some inconveniences, but they are related to NDMP, not
SnapImage per se. Regarding performance, it is not a bottleneck in our setup
(this may not be true if you have more data and faster tape drives).
