Re: [Bacula-users] Windows client VSS

ello Ana, I have put Heartbeat Interval to 1 Minute in DIR,SD and FD config file.
Hello Ankush: just as workaround and for test purposes you can have more than one Include into the same Fileset stanza, you can have one with VSS enabled and another without. Just put in the disabled VSS Include all the Windows Volumes that you think won't need it. In fact this would make your ideal backup faster and a good option anyway. Ultimately, if you think you need VSS for all the Windows chunk, you could split your backup job between two FileSets.

It seems that the storage daemon is waiting too much with vss enabled and loosing connection with fd. You have a very slow transfer rate with vss disabled. This could be worst with vss enabled and killing connection with sd before data could be transfered. Is Bacula support backup of windows client 2003 with VSS enable? Ankush Some quick thoughts: 1) It says “Windows Home Server” in the message. There exists no 64 bit version of that, AFAIK. 2) “wmic OS get OSArchitecture” works on Vista + later only. The fastest way on all from Windows 2000 onward is [Windows key]+[Break]. The System Properties window that pops up will tell you if it’s 64 bit. If it doesn’t seem to tell you anything about that, it’s 32 (for instance on Server 2003/32 it just says “Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2”). 3) I thought of the heartbeat interval too, until I noticed that the dropped connection was between Director and SD. I don’t consider it very likely that there’s a router or a firewall between those, and a simple (layer 2) switch shouldn’t cause this problem. A layer 3 switch could, but I wouldn’t expect to find one of those in a network with home server. The switch would probably cost more than the equipment connected to it. So basically, I’m jumping into this thread, but I don’t know the one and only 100% correct answer either :( Yes it is 32 bit window. Hello Ankush: I'm pretty sure this is the Client Architeture, not OS one. I don't use Windows, but I researched this command do fetch it from the CLI: wmic OS get OSArchitecture
Anyway, did you try Kern's advise of setting a Heartbeat Interval? This is more likely the solution to your problem. =========================================================================== Heitor Medrado de Faria - LPIC-III | ITIL-F | Bacula Systems Certified Administrator II I'm a Bacula/SysAdmin looking for a job in USA or Europe. Are you sure this is a 32-bit Windows OS? If this is a 64-bit OS, then you need to install the 64-bit version of Bacula client instead of the 32-bit version.
