Found it, I was really blind yesterday. Looking exactly at the error and 
couldn't see the difference between client1 and client2.
On client1 I set the director name correctly to backup.foo.com on client2 I 
left it as it was installed, client2.foo.com which can not work! 
Everything works as expected now.
