Try to fix your drive settings first. There is some good documentation
in the Bacula Problem Resolution Guide:
http://www.bacula.org/5.2.x-manuals/en/problems/problems/Testing_Your_Tape_Drive.html
Use the btape test to check if your settings are ok.
The Parts "Incorrect Number of Blocks or Positioning Errors" and
"Ensuring that the Tape Modes Are Properly Set - Linux Only "might apply
here, you may have check the correct settings on your tape block size.
