Where are your retention definitions?

they should be in bacula-dir.conf

Client {
   ...
   Job Retention = x days
   File Retention = x days
   ...
}

Pool {
   ...
   Volume Retention = x days
   # dont put job/file retentions into the pool resource
   ...
}
