Our MSL6000 periodically stops responding.

It also sometimes fails to unlock a drive when commanded - which also
leads to the kind of error you're reporting.

In our case I traced it to the (quite poorly implemented) onboard FC/Scsi
bridge, but this is a firmware/hardware issue and HP have no intention of
fixing it.
