Bacula 2.2.6 running on Debian 4 with an Overland 24 slot tape changer.

We had a situation this week where a back up job hung because it was waiting to write to a tape that was not in the tape changer. Is this normal?
Below is from the bacula log:

02-Sep 22:43 ceres-sd JobId 10639: End of medium on Volume "AMD579L3" Bytes=598,
452,406,272 Blocks=9,276,605 at 02-Sep-2009 22:43.
02-Sep 22:44 ceres-sd JobId 10639: Invalid slot=0 defined in catalog for Volume
"AMD553L3" on "ArcVaultDrive-1" (/dev/nst0). Manual load my be required.
02-Sep 22:44 ceres-sd JobId 10639: Please mount Volume "AMD553L3" or label a new
 one for:
<snip>

The tape is not in the changer:

| MediaId | VolumeName | VolStatus | Enabled | <snip> | Recycle | Slot | InChanger | MediaType | LastWritten         |
+---------+------------+-----------+---------+--------+---------+------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+
|     154 | AMD553L3   | Append    |       1 | <snip> |       1 |    0 |         0 | LTO3      | 2009-09-04 11:57:12 |

I am also wondering how it could have been written to an hour ago when it has not been in the tape changer for 2 months.

Any ideas why this happens and how it can be prevented would be most welcome.
Thanks,
John
