Most probably, the file system where the batch table is written fills 
up during backups, or there is a file system or hardware error.

I'd check the system logs first, and then monitor disk usage while 
backups are running.

The solution might be as simple as pointing sqlite to use another file 
system for temporary tables (but don't ask me how to do that...)
