First step:

Do NOT do it as 1 big file. Make your volumes 1 to 5GB. Then use rsync
to transfer the files. You should never use just 1 volume file anyways
as this breaks the volume recycling concept. I mean with 1 volume you
will run into the case where you will have to throw away all backups
at the time of recycling. To me this is a very bad practice.
