hi

i'm using bacula with a Quantum LTO-4 drive. i've bought it in summmer
2008.

tested the drive with btape, backed up and verified the volume without an
error. Now i tried to bscan the volume as it got pruned from catalog
after a while and i need some files.

now there are many I/O errors on the tape (damn!). i've turned on
"proceed inspite of I/O errors" (-p). it constantly prints:

02-Mar 11:15 bscan JobId 0: Error: block.c:999 Read error on fd=3 at
file:blk 4:4294967295 on device "LTO-4" (/dev/nst0). ERR=Input-/
Outputerror.
 Bacula status: file=4 block=-1
 Device status: WR_PROT ONLINE IM_REP_EN file=4 block=-1
bscan: read_record.c:150 Did fsr in attemp to skip bad record.
02-Mär 11:15 bscan JobId 0: Error: block.c:999 Read error on fd=3 at
file:blk 4:4294967295 on device "LTO-4" (/dev/nst0). ERR=Input-/
Outputerror.
 Bacula status: file=4 block=-1
 Device status: WR_PROT ONLINE IM_REP_EN file=4 block=-1
bscan: read_record.c:150 Did fsr in attemp to skip bad record.

The "file:blk 4:4294967295" part doesn't change. i would expect that
"skip bad record" would mean that the block number would increase?

tapeinfo tells me this (not really promising):

TapeAlert[3]: Hard Error: Uncorrectable read/write error.
TapeAlert[5]: Read Failure: Tape faulty or tape drive broken.
TapeAlert[20]: Clean Now: The tape drive neads cleaning NOW.

i've already cleaned the drive two times. the "clean now" pops up again
after trying to read.

is there some chance to get over block 4294967295 and read the rest of
the tape?

i'm using bacula 2.4.2.

- Thomas
