volume is a member of.

The answer is yes.

Use bconsole's 'update volume' command.

Cough ;-) ... no. That would only happen if you overwrite the tape and 
put a new label on it. That basically guarantees trouble, especially 
if you don't also remove the old volume from the catalog.
