| Hello,

| I need to upgrade an older version of Bacula to the latest release. I'm
| currently running Bacula version 1.36.3 with MySql Server version
| 4.1.12-MAX on Fedora Core 3.
|
| 1. Can I directly upgrade to the latest version or will I need to do
| incremental upgrades?

I believe you will at least need to do the database incrementally, but
the rest probably not.

| 2. Is there doc on how to upgrade?

Yes, and the release notes of each release will tell you generally what
you need to know. AFAIK the manual documents updating as well.

| 3. Will I need to upgrade my version of Fedora or MySql?

The only times that will matter is if you are trying to use packages
from a third-party or for the wrong version of Fedora that may depend on
other packages. If you're running Fedora and get the packages for that
version, you should not have a problem. I could have sworn that 4.1 is
the lowest MySQL that Bacula now works with, though it is possible I
could be wrong. This also is in the manual though.

| 4. This is a production box. Is there a way to backup my current working
| version of Bacula and easily put it back in place if I have a problem
| with the upgrade?

Sure, save all the binaries and a copy of the catalog.

| 5. Will I be able to still access my old backups if I need to do a
| restore on the new version of Bacula.

The media format for Bacula I believe has been constant since 1.0. I
don't expect this to change.

| I did not do the original install of Bacula on this machine. I am also
| not a expert when it comes to Linux or MySql. So any help is appreciated.

No time like the present to start learning! :)
