Thanks John! Upgrading seems to have done the trick. I wasn't really aware that the tape loading issues had affected autoloaders as well. I thought it was just manual tape changes. Thank you, Shon

There were a few tape loading / mounting bugs in 2.4.0 and 2.4.1 that
may be causing that problem. The current version is 2.4.2. I had
loading problems with 2.4.0 and they seem to have gone away since I
installed the latest.
