I have version 2.2.5 installed from Blastwave packages on Solaris 10_x86. This version uses MySQL 4. I am planning to upgrade to 2.4.0 by compiling myself.
I have a couple of questions first that I hope can be answered.

Can I continue to use MySQL 4, or must I upgrade to version 5?
Are any additional tables created or changes to existing tables between versions?
If so, what is the recommended procedure to retain the catalog and other database information?
Will my current configs continue to work, or have there been changes I should account for?
