Mixing CPAN and rpm packages is dangerous and should not be necessary.
What couldn't you find as current packages with yum or epel6 src
packages.

I'd expect the stock samba-client to work or we would have heard of
problems already on distributions that release versions earlier than
RHEL/Centos.  On the other hand, I think people have mentioned
problems with apache 2.4 so you may run into something there.
