installation working and configured a test backup of another server. 

what could be the problem...?

Got fatal error during xfer (auth required, but service downloads is open/insecure)
Backup aborted (auth required, but service downloads is open/insecure)
Not saving this as a partial backup since it has fewer files than the prior one (got 0 and 0 files versus 0)

It should be in /etc/httpd/conf.d/BackupPC.conf.   The 'require
valid-user' in the
<Directory       /usr/share/BackupPC/sbin/>
section.

Note that your browser will cache your credentials if you haven't
completely closed it, though.
