some noteworthy 'aha!' things:

- config.pl explains 90% of what you need to know about backuppc. Just read
  the comments in that file end-to-end.
- in order to make the example localhost.pl file (in debian's distribution)
  work properly and back up *all* the files on the local machine with tar,
  you need to add a 'sudo' in there.
- remember to turn on compression when backing up over slow links
- different ssh ciphers can make a difference in transfer speed. Experiment
  with arcfour and blowfish.
