I didnt notice this because I'm only backing up 60M of data, which took about 90 seconds. A significantly larger database would have been killed with this.
By separating the commands, everything completes within 30 seconds - and that's even with an additional PGP command!
I think, that is bad idea to run mysqldump and pipe its to gzip. because
mysql stay locked while gzip working
