Clonezilla-live (http://www.clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/) is one of 
the easiest ways to do disk/partition image style copies.  But, if you 
know how to fdisk/mkfs and make a disk bootable from a live/rescue CD, 
you can do a full recovery from the tar archives that backuppc saves.
