You get this error too, if you forgot or have the wrong "server_args" line
in your xinetd.conf. Specify something like

server_args = -auth=bsd amdump amindexd amidxtaped

there and restart xinetd.

This argument changed in one of the 2.5 versions (forgot which one exactly).
