What version of tar are you using?  It might be related to what I
saw in my recent posting, where tar 1.16 now returns an error code
of 1 when a file changes during the run.  Previous versions returned
a 2 in that case, which I think just caused Amanda to flag it as
STRANGE, but a 1 is interpreted as failed, so Amanda retries from the
beginning until either it works or you hit 'too many dumper retries',
whatever number that is.  I haven't seen any replies on what 'PARTIAL'
means.
