Hi,
I have the same problem since a few days (using Amanda snapshot

I get exactly the same message and it's the only strange thing I could find in
the logs

I agree, but I don't know what this file should look like. I tried to delete
all the tar lists and force a level 0 which didn't help (the level 0 is good
but the level 1 estimate still fails)

yes

Maybe ; the 1.15.91 version introduced a new snapshot format and some other
incompatible changes :
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2006-06/msg00001.html
But on the other hand, I also tried to manually copy the snapshot file and
create a tar archive with the command line taken from 'runtar' and this
worked fine. So it could be something to update in the way Amanda
communicates with tar.
thanks for your help
