you know, i have been doing backups here at our medium sized site for
almost eight years. i always built it by hand, and i'm pretty good
at it. however, we have this trend of systems spread (more and more
different OS's to support), and my evil sadistic bastard of a boss
insists that i go to using packages..
oh well. what i did is to take a gnu tar 1.15 src rpm and
rpmbuild --rebuild that, then rpm -U the resulting package.
speaking of building from src, i have been using 2.4.5 + split/span
for my amanda tapehost for a while now, and am very pleased about it..
cheers,
chris
