An update...
First, thanks for the wild guess, Paul (nowait vs wait in xinetd.d).
Setting nowait resulted in port unreachables...
I've started using ethereal to see what the traffic looks like and it
appears that amandad simply isn't responding.
I'm seeing the UDP packet from the server coming in, but nothing goes
out from amandad (which definitely is being launched by xinetd).
Is there a way to get amandad to report more detailed debug information?
