The user specified in amanda.conf should have also gotten an
emailed report giving more detail than the above.

The report can be regenerated with amreport if mail has failed.

There should also be a number of log files used for debugging
under /tmp/amanda which will give excruciating detail.

You say amcheck gave a blank output?  That is not the norm.
Perhaps you ran it with the option to email the report and
have not checked your email?
