New installation of Amanda 2.4.4p2i (compiled from source) on Mandrake 10.0

Trying to get it running on the local (tape server) host first and I'm
getting permission denied errors on the disk I'm trying to back up (root
partition) and the /etc/dumpdates file.

I checked/fixed permissions, group membership, xinetd.d, .amandahosts,
disklist... (see below) I'm missing something here, but can't figure
out what.

If it makes any difference, hardware is a Dell PE6150, disks are a 5*146G
raid-5 array on a PERC3 controller. sda1 is the 20G / partition, 500M used.

Thanks,

Bram
