It is recommended FREQUENTLY on this list to NOT use "localhost" as
a client or server name. Use the actual host name. And use the actual
name in disklist and in ...
You are correct that .amandahosts should be in the amanda-user's
home directory. I'm assuming your amanda-user is named "amanda".
What is "amanda"s home directory? Check in the /etc/password file.
That is where .amandahosts should go.
