Thanks everyone for the amlabel answers.  Now that I've finished
re-labelling my tapes, I'm running into another issue that has me a bit
stuck.  amcheck reports:

WARNING: kline: selfcheck request timed out.  Host down?

I've double checked the suggestions in the FAQ, proper entries in
/etc/services, and have double checked /etc/xinetd.d/amanda for typos.
I've restarted xinetd and rebooted, and I'm still getting the same error.
