How did you install Samba and Amanda?

At first install Samba, after that use "./configure
--with-smbclient=/somedir/smbclient" to explicitly tell amanda its
location.

If you have not used any special bindir for Samba, Amanda should find
smbclient fine. Maybe it was just the compile-order so the smbclient
was not there when you compiled Amanda.

Another issue is that AFAIK you have to patch Samba 3.0.0 to work with
Amanda 2.4.4p1.

Gregor Ibic has posted his patch to this list, I use it on 2 servers
and it works out fine.

Look through the archives to find his patch.
