Hi,

I’m having problems getting Amanda amanda-2.4.4p1 to install/work on BSDi 5. I’ve read and re-read all the documentation, and I’m using this list as a ‘last resort.’

I’m hoping this may be just a simple configuration issue:

I can successfully build and install the Amanda package, but when running amlabel, it asks: “insert tape into slot  and press return” I do so and press <enter> but the message repeats itself. I need to ctrl-c to get out of it. I am using a VXA-2 Tape Drive.

            Things I have tried:

I can run mt and receive tape drive information as user: amanda

all directories w/ conf files related to amanda are owned user.group by amanda.

Verified that the device referenced in the config file is /dev/nrst0

Tapelist is 0 bytes (touch tapelist)

I installed an older version of amanda with more errors than I’m getting now.

                        amanda-2.4.3

amlabel in 2.4.3 gives me nasty errors about not able to read certain lines in the config file (expected end of line, etc.) this may be a clue?

I installed the dev branch of amanda (2.5.x) but get different errors about not finding certain directories. This is probably just a development bug as I know that source is not stable.

I wonder if I am missing a dependency. The INSTALL document refers to needing readline and termcap to build amanda (They are installed). Maybe I need something else.

Does this sound familiar to anybody? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Anybody else running BSDi 5 and using Amanda?

Thanks in advance,

-Chris Fairman
