tapetype has been renamed to amtapetype in 2.4.4 and includes a man page.

Some stuff you set at configure time, other goes in your amanda.conf.

You'd really benefit from reading docs/INSTALL and the chapter at 
<http://www.backupcentral.com/amanda.html>.  This list is best at 
answering detailed questions about specific issues.
