What I do with my amanda configuration is to append an "offline" command to
the tape drive following the amanda run:

>From the amanda user's crontab

1 1 * * 1-5     /usr/local/amanda/sbin/amdump <configname>; mt offline

The offline command to the tape drive does not get executed until Amanda has
finished, so the tape has unloaded by the time someone comes around to
change tapes.  Also, I can train operators to leave the tape alone until the
green Ready LED has lit.  Keeps them from coming in and interrupting a
backup because the tape is temporarily idle waiting for dumper to deliver
the next backup image to taper.
