If you're really really sure you don't need the data, you can
issue "delete volume vol_name discarddata=yes"
But, make your boss sign a guarantee that you won't lose your job
if someone decides later that they need the data.

It was a backup that we do not want, we already have a copy of the same
files. It is taking up  too much real estate.

Either let the data expire through defined retention policies, or move
the data off of them using move data commands.  Deleting them is not a
good idea as you are destroying your backup data if you do.

Are you running reclamation on your storage pools?  Volumes with a low
percentage utilized and high percentage reclaimable should be reclaimed
and returned to scratch automatically.
