Hi Andy...Thanks turns out it the value that was entered was 10 not in
the rage that is
allowed for that parameter. Also since 4 is the default I personally
don't think it
will make a difference. We are running weekly, Monthly and Yearly backup
sets
for these particular servers for groupwise post office restores. I'm
going to
inquire about shutting down the database and restarting when the backup
completes.

Off-hand, I would say to (a) check spelling of the parameter, and (b) make
sure the value is in the documented range. Also, (c) check the
serialization setting in the copy group to make sure it is SHRSTATIC
(DYNAMIC or SHRDYNAMIC *not* recommended, make sure you read the reference
info for these settings if you use them!!!!) If serialization is STATIC,
then the client will only try to back the file up once.

Of course, I can only guess; the actual contents of the dsm.opt file and
the output that complains about the option would have been helpful. ;-)

General unsolicited thoughts: I do not know what these files are, but if
this is a production database system, make sure that the traditional TSM
incremental backup method is sufficient for restoring the database files.
Also consider shutting down the database engine prior to the backup, and
restarting when the backup completes.

Andy

Hello All,

I am seeing the following messages appear in our TSM reporter activity
log for a Novell client
They are appearing during a Novell clients incremental backup everynite
now. When the Novell admin
client tried loading the the changingretries pararmeter in the dsm.opt,
dsmc rejected that as an
invalid option. According to the Netware Install guide he should be able
to boost the value
in the changingretries parameter. Has anyone ran into this type issue
before?
