Hi Debbie,
you can mix the tapes for 3590 and 3592 drives inside the library as you like,
but  only 3592 drives can use the 300GB tapes and the
20/40GB tapes are only usable by the 3590 magstar drives.
You can also mix 3592 drives and 3590 drives in the library but not in one 
frame.
We have upgraded our l12-frame to a l22-frame : this includes a new os/2-PC
and the frames needed for the new 3592 -drives ( maximum 4 Drives in l22 ) and 
placed
the new 3592 Drives in there.
You may move the old 3590 Drives into another D12 -drive- frame: we have done 
that.
One thing is that you may not forget the total number of Drives you plan
and the number of serial-ports for the Drives ... if you excceed 8 Drives
and currently have 8 Ports available you have to extend the number of ports too.
