Hi,

Had something like that. Turned, in our case, out to be a defect of the
"mount ready" sensor in the drive. In our case it was a IBM 3584 library
with LTO1 fiber drives.

Regards,

Karel

Onderwerp: Volume mounts but TSM doesnt use it

                Hello TSM'ers,

We have a situation where every now and again a tape will mount, but the
process requesting the tape remains in a state of 'Waiting for mount of
volume', I've searched IBM for any hints but haven't found any so far;

A trace of the event looks like this;

09:34:56.350 [178][asvolmnt.c][2993]: Mounting active volume
SH0313(4876), side 0, pool ONSITE_MNT(17).
09:34:56.600 [58][mms.c][909]: Mounting volume SH0313 in library
3584_SHWD;
09:34:56.608 [58][mmslib.c][5920]: Testing for existence of volume
SH0313 in library 3584_SHWD.
09:34:56.608 [58][mmslib.c][5957]: Volume SH0313 exists in library
3584_SHWD; stat=1, use=1.
09:34:56.615 [58][mmsscsi.c][9096]: Preparing private volume SH0313 in
library 3584_SHWD.
09:34:56.620 [58][mmslib.c][7965]: Obtaining reservation for volume
SH0313 in library 3584_SHWD; activity=4.
09:34:56.841 [58][mmsscsi.c][8548]: Beginning volume use; lib=3584_SHWD,
vol=SH0313, element=260.
10:35:54.138 [58][mmsscsi.c][8717]: Ending volume use; lib=3584_SHWD,
vol=SH0313.
10:35:54.159 [58][mmslib.c][8058]: Releasing reservation for volume
SH0313 in library 3584_SHWD.

You can see, 09:34 mmsscsi issues a 'Beginning volume use' message, but
the process never seems to actually start to use the tape, and then, an
hour later (The mountW time set on the server for this devclass) the
tape is dismounted..

Has anyone seen this behaviour before?

LTO1 drives, 3584 library, AIX server at 5.1.5.4

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Matthew.
