I have been using a 3583 with 2 drives connected to a SAN Data Gateway. I
haven't had any problems except reclamation of copypools if you still have
data on disk. Reclamation from disk to LTO is VERY slow. If you are used
to holding data on disk all the time your reclamation can take a lot
longer (I have seen 2-3 GB/hour from disk).

Haven't had any other problems, but use IBM LTO tapes! A client of mine
bought LTO tapes elsewhere and the "gripper" dropped 3 tapes in a week.
IBM Finally changed everything in the 3583 except the drives and the
casing and it still dropped tapes. Finally they figured out that the
tapes where about a milimeter too large so that the tape sometime got
partly stuck in the box when the "gripper" tried to load it. They
actually had to remove the extra milimeter from the tape cartridge
manually!

Hello, all.

I'm looking at replacing all of my IBM 3570 tape libraries with 3583
libraries, and looking to hear from anyone who has experience with the
3583, particularly on Windows servers. Our experience with the 3570 has
been less than pleasant at times. I'd like to hear about any good or
bad experiences, as well as any "gotchas" I might look for. The drives
we use will be fiber attached, as opposed to the SCSI attached 3570 we
are using now.

Any advice would certainly be appreciated!

Thanks!
