I've wasted a lot of time trying to find an HSM component for various
platforms. actually HSM only works on aix and solaris. i've been told that
"a future" version of nt (maybe 2000) would get that component, and that
"some older" versions had a third party hsm component.

the problem is that, IMHO, there has been a considerable lack of precision
in ibm's online documentation which has confused a lot of people, because
they wrote (something like) "hsm is available on hp-ux, windows, ..." not
to mean that it was actually available as a component for adsm servers on
those mentionned platforms, but to mean that those platforms could use hsm
(only) through an aix server.

the explanation is that hsm is tightly coupled to the OS (which has to
handle "dummy" files) and that only aix (that is, ibm's OS) allowed such a
"collaboration"...

my 2 cents
